Stonnington residents recognised with Queen’s Birthday Honours

14 Jun 2016

SEVERAL Stonnington residents have been recognised in this year’s Queen’s Birthday Honours List.

JOHN Bertrand is no stranger to awards and recognition, having immortalised himself in Australian history in 1983 when he skippered Australia II to victory in the America’s Cup.

But sporting legend status aside, Mr Bertrand has gone on to achieve a great many things – both on and off the water – since that day and he said it felt good to be recognised as a Queen’s Birthday Honours award recipient for this “second phase” in his life.

“I’m fortunate to have been recognised ... in the past for winning the America’s Cup, but this is something else,” Mr Bertrand said.

The South Yarra resident was appointed an Officer (AO) of the Order of Australia on June 13, joining 771 Australians from a wide range of professions and industries recognised for their outstanding achievements and dedication to the community.
